World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS), founded in 1968, is an international non-profit organization composed of rose societies of different countries. There are 41 member countries including the UK, USA, France, Germany, China, etc. The Goal is to disseminate and popularize the knowledge and information about rose throughout the world.
The advanced world rose conventions sponsored by WFRS and bid for in turn by 41 member countries are World Rose Convention, WFRS Regional Convention and World Heritage Rose Convention, etc. During the convention, WFRS organizes the member countries to exchange about research achievements on rose cultivation, landscaping, breeding and culture and display new cultivars, technology, application and achievements and provides the platform for the host country and city to promote their regional brand and international exchange and cooperation.
To further facilitate the fast development of China rose cause, guided by Chinese Rose Society after the successful host of 2019 WFRS Regional Convention, Nanyang applied to WFRS for the setup of “World Rose Expo”and bid for the 1st World Rose Expo, which was approved at the WFRS Executive Committee meeting in Calcutta, India on January 9, 2020.
WFRS President Henrianne de Briey indicates that Nanyang has many beautiful rose gardens, rose avenues and large-scale rose industry and the 1st World Rose Expo will surely have a great effect on the publicity and promotion of rose culture. The past WFRS President Kelvin Trimper indicates that the 1st World Rose Expo in Nanyang will provide an important international displaying stage for rose and other gardening profession. President of Chinese Rose Society Zhang Zuoshuang indicates that Nanyang’s successful bid for the 1st World Rose Expo is an important event for world rosarians and especially for Chinese rosarians, and it is a milestone in the development of Nanyang rose industry. We believe Nanyang will take the important opportunity to improve the first, second and third rose industries and make greater contributions to China’s ecological civilization, beautiful China construction and sustainable development.
The 1st World Rose Expo is to be held on May 7 to 10, 2021, together with the theme commonweal activity of “Green Tour to China—Beautiful Nanyang”, actually two conventions melt into one. The sponsors of the convention are National Green Committee, State Forestry and Grassland Administration, Executive Committee of Forest Related Activities, Henan Provincial People’s Government, China Green Foundation, World Federation of Rose Societies and China Flower Association; the hosts are Department of Ecological Restoration, Publicity Center and Economical Development Research Center of State Forestry and Grassland Administration, Henan Forestry Bureau, Chinese Rose Society, Henan Flower Association and Nanyang Municipal People’s Government. The convention, with the slogan of “Nanyang Rose, Sweet all over the World” is composed of 5 activities and 8 exhibitions. The 5 activities are the Opening Ceremony (Launching Ceremony), Commonweal Performance of Green Tour to China—Beautiful Nanyang & the 1st World Rose Expo, a 10-person Talk on Green China: Changes Observed from Pu and Du Mountain Roads (Nanyang Chapter), Top Forum on China Rose Industrial Development and the View of China from Blue Waters and Green Mountains: CCTV to Beautiful Nanyang. The 8 exhibitions are “The Belt and Road” World Rose Gardens Exhibition, Rose Carnival Float Tour, Flower Boat Art Show, Top Rose Specialty Exhibition, “Flower World” International Flower Art Exhibition, “Flower Memory”Rose Culture Exhibition, “Flower Life”Rose Products Exhibition and“Flower Benefits”Featured Agricultural Products Consumption Poverty Alleviation Exhibition.
Nanyang Municipal Party Committee and Government have been paying much attention to the preparation for the convention, setting up the high-standard organizing committee with the secretary and the mayor as the chairmen, stepping up all preparatory work and trying to establish environments with perfect hardware and software. We will strain with all our efforts to plan scientifically and prepare meticulously for the convention and thus ensure the convention crowned with complete success.
